Welcome back, Jovi friends!
Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs continues with Love for Sale

Love for Sale is the twelfth and final song on Bon Jovi’s fourth album; New Jersey (1988).
But this New Jersey series will continue!
Because Bon Jovi made more songs, among which one of my favorites, that never made it to the album.

New Jersey was the album that was released after their biggie, Slippery When Wet. Bon Jovi were now the biggest rock stars on the planet, and the band had to deliver. And they did.

New Jersey would (and definitely “should”!) have been a double album, if it had been up to the band.
The record company blocked it, on grounds that they didn’t think fans would be able to pay for the higher price.

And we’re at the 12th and final song, but there will be many more!
This was supposed to be a double album, so there are many songs that are not on the official release.

In 2026 we’ll be wrapping up all songs, that were made for this album.

2. A low-key song 01:15
Essentially a demo, Love for Sale was not a high-profile song.

Love For Sale, was played once in a full-band electric version during the band’s Christmas Show in Red Bank 1991.

This is also the performance with a reference to the Elvis Presley inspiration:
“Put on my best Elvis record.”

3. Meaning of the song and YouTube-friendly wording 03:38
The song is exactly what you think it is about!
But to keep it YouTube-friendly, I cannot speak about it openly, so we’ll just use the phrase “Love for Sale” whenever I’m speaking about a certain industry or profession.

4. Discovering why this is my favorite album 04:35
I’ve known for a long time that New Jersey was my favorite.
But what I didn’t know, was why.
I may have even gone through episodes thinking it was a musical preference, which, if you know me a little, is highly unlikely.
Unless you count Always Go For The Heaviest Guitars as a legitimate musical choice.

But what I realized in preparing this video, and knowing I would be speaking about the topic of “Love for Sale”, was that there are two other very explicit Bon Jovi songs (outtakes) that also belong to this album.
And this whole album has an undercurrent of passion to it.
New Jersey is quite simply, Bon Jovi’s most explicit album.

And this explains why it has instinctively always been my favorite.

5. The story that I could not withhold from you! 10:10
Even though the 10 minute marker, would have been a great spot to cap it, give you a life lesson and call it a day.
But then you would not have gotten the best part.

So behold, a story straight from the roaring 90s.
About “love for sale”.

6. Life lesson 16:30
If you’re fascinated with something taboo, or niche, or weird, it indicates a deeper need or want, or desire.
And this could be personal, for your situation, but it can also be that society is not there yet.
Your interests point to your unmet needs.
