Not halfway, but entirely there! Buy me a bonafide coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/RockStarWriter

Jon Bon Jovi revealed here with Julie Brown, that he wakes up with a fishbowl full of coffee. And that he’s a great flirt.

I often realize that I have never communicated what my *cough*  business model is. This is because I’m so vastly uncomfortable with it, that unconsciously I m still waiting to be saved from it.
Because surely, something better should come along, right?
But it never did.

So last week, I reconciled with what I have known for half a year or longer:
That there is no business model.

I make things and then you give me money if you want to.
That’s it, that’s the business.
Fin.

So I ve suspected for a while now, that I need to become as savvy as they come with regard to choosing my donation options.
And that I’m not even a full member of the “creator economy”! Which still has the aura of transaction, that selling something (early access, extra content, personal access) however volatile, is still at the core of the business model.

On a side-note: I m also the only blogger in the world who does not like Substack, which is a highly praised platform for writers.
Creators can have subscribers, but there is no shame on having everything set to “public”.
It would have been ideal, if didn’t instinctively dislike it. And after following a famous Dutch writer and supporting a hilarious American writer there – who I should have stuck with supporting because if not her, then what hope is there in the world for people like me who write far less comical? – after that I disliked Substack even more.

And if even the gentle, artist friendly platforms Substack and Patreon are not to your liking, then trust me; You need extra time to process how totally out of whack it is, what you want to do.
How “not done”.
Silly.
Childish.
Stupid.

But when I recovered from being the financial harlequin among bloggers, I pulled myself up by my chequered bootstraps, and stuck to my tinklers.
I create. You give. Or not, because your freedom to give what you want, is only matched by my freedom to create whatever I want. And those options include “nothing”.

I m guessing in that red cup, there’s a little bit of coffee straight from the fishbowl’s mouth…

And then I learned about a platform that immediately clicked, “Buy Me A Coffee”. Even though it had limited payment options (G Pay and credit card), but initially I thought that might have been a choice by the creator I have sponsored with it.
It wasn’t.
I haven’t found a way to activate or find other payment options than those two either, although the platform promised to support local payment systems and I always thought entire Europe pays with debit card by now, but okay.
Maybe I missed something and installing more payment options is just another thing I ll discover in the future…

Because I definitely missed something else last week, when I finalized my decision and created a Buy Me A Coffee account!
Oh dear.

And as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to change it, and after that replace the link on all the outlets where I had already mentioned the Buy Me A Coffee link.
Which were at least 1 YouTube video, one Dutch about page, one Dutch blogpost, and three different social media, but it could have been even more.

Meanwhile I kept working, and new material was saved in drafts, thinking I would be able to post them soon.
One unposted Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs video, one White Tigress yoga video, and one drafted Daily Bon Jovi blog later, I just put myself on a creators embargo until I had it fixed.

The mistake I had made when I had finally committed to being a donation based creator and make a Buy Me A Coffee account, was that I had overlooked that I had to manually change the user handle.
So unless I identified with being “nFFDP4LFsW”, I had to go into my account and come up with a limited-digit user handle that was more pleasing to the eye.
I soon discovered I couldn’t use my whole name: Suzanne Beenackers was too long.
And because I didn’t have an alternative, I left it that way for three pieces of unpublished English Rock Star content.

Until I realized something! Wait a minute! I had published a Dutch blog, so apparently I wasn’t too worried about that audience ending up clicking the page with the numeric handle!
And it “clicked”.

Because although there will be Dutch people, like me supporting the YouTube creator of my choosing, that will support me through Buy Me A Coffee;
It really is primarily an international thing.

I do not have to have a link/ handle that matches my Dutch outlets:
I can choose an English one.
So today, after one week of letting all my English content fall by the wayside and ultimately me stopping to create (and getting quite desperate tbh), I logged onto the site and typed letter by letter, anxious if it would not be too long!

And it fit!

So for those with a credit card, G Pay, and with a joyous desire to pay me, I now have a Buy Me A Coffee account, with a beautiful link:

We’re there.

WOAH! Jon Bon Jovi 60! 60 live performances to celebrate!

video: early beginnings!

Jon Bon Jovi turns 60 today, and to celebrate this, I have created a list of 60 live performances that we can enjoy!

I’ve already put over 8 hours in, so I will make this quick and leave you with what could turn out to be your most beloved playlist of 2022.
1. THE LINK
just click and press play, that’s how these things go down.
2. the story behind the list from the description box
3. A list with ALL the songs.
“Do you have to?” I hear you ask.
Yes, I do.
There’s 60 songs on there, and because YouTubers come and go, one or two are bound to disappear.

If I keep a list here, I can check which song went awol as soon as the number of songs drops below 60. And I can replace it.

Enjoy my fellow Bon Jovi friends!

~Suzanne

1. THE LINK

just click and press play, that’s how these things go down.
Happy Birthday Jon Bon Jovi! | 2022 03 02
60 live performances to celebrate this iconic birthday of the man himself.

2. the story behind the list from description box

From the earliest of stadiums in Japan 1984, to their earth shattering, bells ringing, angels whistling performances at Wembley 1995.
Enjoy!

I want to use this description box for 2 things: 1. Explain how the list was created, but first
2. acknowledge the creators of all the videos.

CREATORS
Thank you to all the YouTubers who are remastering and sharing the extensive bootleg library, and all those who recorded the originals in particular in the 80s and 90s. The “bootleggers roll your tapes” phrase from Jon can be heard several times I believe!
The YouTubers I want to acknowledge by name because they made my work so much easier, and this list relies so extensively on them are: PabloSantaFe87, hAnD90, Damned TV and Bon Jovi Live Concerts.

HOW THIS LIST 1984-1996 WAS CREATED
The songs are chronological, so the oldest at the top and recordings from 1996 at the bottom.
I preferred the performance to be as close to the release date of the song as possible. So f.e. 1986 performances from Slippery When Wet (1986) album tracks.
But if performances from a later date were significantly better, I chose those.
This means in particular for 1986-1989, that the albums are not recognizable in their purest form. F.e. the 1989 bracket has Wild In The Streets, from the 1986 album.
Other choices I made, when choosing which recording to share, were:
-stadium/ large crowds preferred over a more intimate setting
-recordings with video were preferred over those with stills (audio only)

-correct date (early recordings of the hit) preferred over quality of the recording.
Sometimes this meant I added other performances of the song as well, on a later date.

For Diamond Ring I added two performances, years apart.
The second one contains the story, of how this song came into being, and why it was played so long before finally making it onto a record.

And finally, I closed with an extra Always performance, because it is often an encore song; And the Wembley 1995 performance of Livin’ On a Prayer/ You Give Love A Bad Name.

These songs were actually openers, and not closing the show, in 1995.
But since I have seen the movie Bohemian Rhapsody a gazzilion times, which ends with the 20 minute show from Queen for Live Aid/ in Wembley, I just couldn’t resist, and had to close this list with a bang!

I hope you enjoy the list.

It took me 8 hours to create, so no birthday post for Jon Bon Jovi today.
But I expect to write one soon, at:
https://rockstarwriternijmegen.com/
(that’s this blog!)

So subscribe to that blog, or search it to look if I actually gave Jon Bon Jovi a worthy birthday story. So far I only have “the biggest rock star of his generation”, so it needs a little bit more!

Have a great show!

updated: Rock Star Yoga Studio [ NEW ]

I m going to start an online yoga studio – but I am a week delayed. In Europe the threat of war has become very real (although not as urgent as in Ukraine and for the citizens of Russia)
But I had to cope with that: I needed to understand if I still wanted to pursue teaching yoga online on YouTube.
And I will, because I think it’s more important than ever to come together and unite across the globe, celebrating the things that bind and unite us.

I will start making yoga videos this week.

Bon Jovi 1985-1995 Deep cuts and cover songs (live)

video: just a snippet of Cadillac Man, lured me back in!

Click photo for the playlist. The first song is The Heart Of America, a song that was played only once. If I remember correctly, also Bon Jovi’s first show for a mega-crowd, at Farm Aid 1985. Remastered by hAnD90, who also picked the photo.

For months I ve mostly been Bon Jovi free.
In the stress of getting back to my yoga mat and yoga business after what we’ll call a yoga sabbatical the size of one pandemic, give or take 2 years, it was as if I couldn’t listen to music without feeling it distracted my thoughts and made focusing and prioritizing even more difficult.
I ve cancelled all news subscriptions, streaming services and cable, and only watch series or movies as a social activity.
Entertainment has been turned down pretty much close to zero, so that I can focus.
And I haven’t been listening to music, or at least I didn’t until a new upload on YouTube awoke something that I had not seen or felt this year!
Songs Written by Jon Bon Jovi & Notable Covers

The video contains footage from other artists performing songs by Jon Bon Jovi, but it also has footage from Bon Jovi performing them.

And at 2 minutes I was WIDE awake when Cadillac Man from Osaka 1991 came by!

It reminded me of the list of 102 deep cuts and rare tracks, that I had created 18 months ago or something.
A playlist that had been suffering from videos falling out, it now contained only 97 tracks. And I knew it had not been complete to begin with. Ever since creating it, I had realized there were plenty of songs not on there.

Which in turn, was a not so gentle reminder I needed to get my shit together, because for my YouTube series Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs, where I started with the first album, it WAS important to get all the deep cuts and rare tracks of the 80s lined up!
I knew I had been stalling in this YouTube series, but I also knew that once I started making headway, I was not prepared because I didn’t know what the songs were that were not on the studio albums.
I had not figured out what the complete list was of non-album Bon Jovi tracks, and the list that I had created a while back, the 102 tracks one, was not complete.

So yes, hearing Cadillac Man, Osaka 1992, in that fresh upload freaked me out. Unexpectedly.
But also: It got me back in.
What an amazing performance.
And there’s something intriguing about the year, because this is way before  the Keep The Faith tour, and years after the Jersey Syndicate Tour.

What was this?
Did they have a mini tour, in Japan, pre- Keep The Faith recording?
So many questions!
And one of the many that I will get answers to, now that I m back to listening to Bon Jovi and studying their history.

So the deal was sealed at the 2 minute marker, but it didn’t stop there.
At 3:30 Bon Jovi performing the Cher song, Does Anybody Really Fall In Love Anymore. That New Jersey album outtake with that slightly hoarse and husky voice!!
At 6:22 These Open Arms (2005)! OMG OMG. This song is so good, I m pretty sure there are countries where there are laws against pulling songs like this from your album, instead of putting them on the record and turn them into the giant hit they deserve to be. Or there should be.
At 8:20 the song Burn With Me (2013) that we ALL know should have been on the What About Now album.

It reminded me of all the occasions Bon Jovi had failed to put forth their strongest songs, but more importantly: It reminded me of ME failing everything Bon Jovi I wanted to do, and want to do!
Update the list with 102 gems, even when I knew it had been incomplete, just make sure the 102 songs are on there.
And dive into sorting out the deep cuts from the 80s so that I have them lined up for my project Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs.

So, I did.

Restored (the 102 gems):
Bon Jovi 1985 – 2020 Hidden Gems In Chronological Order

And new:
Bon Jovi 1985-1995 Deep cuts and cover songs (live)

And to top it off, I very unofficially decided to get back to teaching yoga online, pronto. If you want to get on the wagon for that, I ll leave you the links below.

It almost feels like the past 24 hours I heard more Bon Jovi songs, than the past 6 months altogether. My ears are ringing, my heart is pounding, and I m gonna guess I m gonna sleep absolutely terrible tonight.

But I feel more alive than I have in a million years.

Inspired by: Bon Jovi Madison Square Garden 2008 night 2 | new: Play List Series

Whether it was due to magical abilities of my hAnD90 mask, which I received from Sinterklaas (Sankt Nikolaus/ Dutch Santa Claus),
– Sinterklaas made the mask himself!
There is no official merchandise from the channel probably because Dominik from hAnD90 seems to be as modest as he is brilliant –
Or maybe it was not because of the magical mouth mask but because of some other reason;
But after 5 days my favorite Bon Jovi video channel hAnd90 is back online!

And he immediately spoiled us with three new uploads in 72 hours,
among which a live video premiere with chat!

I attended and after 2,5 hours of online partying – there were surprisingly many people drinking beer – and so much great input from other fans,
which performances were great to watch, I decided to look them all up and make a play list in honor of this night.

I m using it for yoga but you can use it anyway you like!.

99 In the Shade

update, September 20, 2020

You’re about to read the second post I wrote for this blog,
which was then still called Rock Star Yoga.
Not Rock Star Writer.

And this blog post is interesting, because you can really see the coat of this being a yoga blog, didn’t fit, right from the start.

That ultimately I m not a yoga teacher, nor a writer.

I am a Bon Jovi fan.

~Suzanne

99 In the Shade

original post, July 25, 2019

JBJ in bath in the 80s: this was my original pic

I was Googling a photo to go with this post, which I intended to call “99 in the Shade” after the Bon Jovi song.
The title seemed fitting because today was the highest temperature ever measured, in the Netherlands.
Technically it was not 99 degrees, but 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Blistering heat.

I wanted a photo of Jon taking a swim or something but ended up finding disturbingly few pictures of Jon swimming in the sea or even visiting the beach, from before 2015
I think having a vacation is a new thing for him, I really do.
Anyway, because I wanted to know if this grainy 80s pic in the Jacuzzi was the best I could do
(I’m saving 80s Jon in super tiny short for emergency pick-me-ups)

I gave it one more go, Googling Jon Bon Jovi + ice
At the word ice, I was already thinking of ice cubes, nipples, wriggling tongue around melting ice sticks.
My Google doesn’t have a filter, and neither does my imagination.
However, what I found was a lot more serious.
Jon had participated in the ALS ice bucket challenge.
I watched Jon Bon Jovi’s ice bucket challenge, and was highly surprised he nominated Tico Torres, his drummer; David Brian, his keyboard player; and Richie Sambora his guitarist.
Ex-guitarist.

Jon’s hair was already the grey and that was a post-Richie Sambora thing.
Richie left in 2013, but didn’t officially resign until 2014.
I checked the video, and it dated from August 2014.
Post-split and perhaps pre-resignation?
I don’t know.

Anyway, in an attempt to find out if Richie had answered the ice bucket challenge, I found an article that proved I wasn’t the only one surprised by Jon’s invitation to his ex-guitarist.
Article: Bon Jovi reunion fueled by ice challenge?

And there I was.
Again.

I finally had my things together with Rock Star Yoga:
A website/ this blog, a Facebook page.
I made my first public Rock Star Yoga playlist, did my practice today, and was going to write a PROPER post about it!
With yoga exercises in it, and which ones I did during each song.
It was going to be super professional, and tight!

I was no longer going to let myself be lured into the mystery that was called Bon Jovi, and in particular the story around the 2013 mid-tour departure of its guitarist.

I had already spent days and days studying it.
Writing about it.
Dreaming about it.

By now I was so deep into it, that I feared someone would one day make me pick sides or put my vision up in my Twitter bio.
Because I had written two long pieces, under my pen name, which had increased my following and had brought me new friends.

Within one week, I had gone from someone who was building her yoga business, into someone who got lost through the looking glass AND down the rabbit hole.
So the moment I officially “founded” Rock Star Yoga, this site, which up until then had “only” been a series on my YouTube;
It was more than just a business decision.
It was a life’s choice.

It was me saying:
“Fan girling days are over! Chop, chop! Take your place as a leader and go conquer the world with Rock Star Yoga!”

Yet immediately after my first successful Rock Star Yoga session, which was supposed to lead into a professional yoga blog post (this one!), with only a mild Bon Jovi reference in the title (referring to the heatwave) what do I end up doing?

Wondering about Jon’s 2014 ice bucket challenge.

Did he really hope for Richie and him to start talking again?
And if so, what happened after Richie posted his challenge?
Had Jon gotten shy, or was Richie supposed to take the initiative after Jon had made the first move?
Questions, questions.

All we know is that Richie Sambora officially resigned from Bon Jovi in 2014.
And that Suzanne Beenackers did 70 minutes of very relaxed lying around on the floor Rock Star Yoga, on Thursday July 25th, 2019.

And that I find the first a hell of a lot more fascinating.

And I probably always will.
